What Is CapnoCoach™?

CapnoCoach™ is a professional education pathway designed to help clinicians understand and use real-time capnography as part of breathing assessment, client education, and clinical decision-making.

Capnography makes aspects of breathing visible. It provides real-time information about exhaled carbon dioxide, respiratory rate, and the pattern of each breath. When combined with clinical observation and other assessment findings, this information can help clinicians better recognize breathing patterns and understand how breathing changes during movement, positioning, activity, rest, and therapeutic intervention.

CapnoCoach provides the essential foundation you need to begin using capnography safely, confidently, and within your professional scope of practice.

See What Breathing Looks Like

Breathing is constantly changing, but many of those changes are difficult to recognize through observation alone.

Capnography provides immediate visual and numerical feedback that can help you:

  • Observe breathing patterns in real time

  • Measure end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO₂)

  • Monitor respiratory rate

  • Recognize basic capnography waveform features

  • Identify poor-quality readings and common sources of artifact

  • Compare breathing before, during, and after an activity or intervention

  • Help clients connect what they feel with what their breathing data shows

  • Begin incorporating objective respiratory information into clinical care

CapnoCoach™ helps translate capnography technology into practical information for clinicians with a physical, functional, and rehabilitation-focused perspective.

Capnography for Outpatient and Rehabilitation Practice

Many capnography courses are designed for emergency, surgical, critical-care, or behavioral-health environments. CapnoCoach™ brings a different perspective.

This course is being developed specifically for professionals interested in breathing dysfunction, movement, posture, rehabilitation, nervous-system regulation, and whole-body function.

You will learn how capnography can complement, not replace, your existing clinical assessment, professional judgment, and discipline-specific skills.

Your CapnoCoach™ Learning Experience

1. Self-Paced Online Training

Beginning in mid-September, complete foundational modules at your own pace and on your own schedule.

The online preparation will introduce essential capnography concepts and walk you through the equipment, accessories, sampling cannulas, and basic setup process.

2. Equipment Selection and Purchasing Support

Breathe Function Thrive™ will help participants identify appropriate, compatible capnography equipment.

Cynthia and Kendra have spent months researching portable options that can provide useful, real-time ETCO₂ measurements without the cost of many traditional clinical systems. They are also communicating with manufacturers about possible group pricing.

If group pricing becomes available, purchasing information will be shared with registered participants. Otherwise, participants will receive a detailed purchasing guide with links to recommended equipment, accessories, and compatible sampling cannulas.

Important: Equipment and related warranties are not included with tuition. Each participant is responsible for selecting, purchasing, and paying for their own capnography equipment and supplies.

3. Personal Equipment-Setup Session

Every participant receives a personal feedback and setup support in a virtual group session with Kendra Anderson, RT.

During your session, Kendra can help you:

• Confirm that you have the appropriate equipment and supplies

• Assemble and connect your equipment if help is needed.

• Troubleshoot initial setup questions

• Obtain a usable reading

• Address questions not covered in the online or live virtual training

What You Will Learn

CapnoCoach™ will introduce you to:

Capnography Foundations

Understand what capnography measures, how it differs from other respiratory measurements, and what information it can, and cannot, provide.

Equipment Essentials

Become familiar with portable capnography equipment, sampling cannulas, accessories, connections, settings, and basic equipment care.

Breathe Function Thrive has arranged for special pricing that will give you additional discount on a monitor that displays and captures, EtCO2, SpO2, respiration, blood pressure, and more. Once you register, we'll include a link and the information you need to purchase this monitor. The online instruction will guide you through the initial set up of your equipment. You'll want to allow a couple of weeks for for delivery and set up before the live virtual training.

Participants are welcome to use any EtCO2 monitor and participate in this course.

Reliable Data Collection

Learn how to position and connect equipment, obtain a usable reading, and recognize common signal-quality problems and artifacts.

ETCO₂ and Respiratory Rate

Build a foundational understanding of end-tidal carbon dioxide and respiratory-rate measurements within the broader clinical picture.

Capnography Fundamentals

Identify the basic components of a capnography waveform and begin recognizing changes in breathing timing, rhythm, and pattern.

Clinical Observation

Explore how capnography information may change during rest, movement, positioning, activity, breathing instruction, and therapeutic intervention.

Real-Time Client Feedback

Discover ways real-time feedback can guide pros in customizing the best interventions as well as use visual feedback to educate a client’s and increase the awareness of their breathing patterns which can help them take a more active role in their care.

Learning Objectives

After completing CapnoCoach™, participants will be able to:

1. Explain the basic purpose and principles of capnography.

2. Describe what ETCO₂, respiratory rate, and the capnography waveform represent.

3. Identify the primary components, accessories, and sampling supplies needed to operate compatible portable capnography equipment.

4. Prepare and connect capnography equipment and obtain a usable real-time reading.

5. Recognize basic waveform components, common artifacts, and indicators of poor signal quality.

6. Observe and describe changes in breathing data during selected positions, activities, or introductory breathing interventions.

7. Integrate introductory capnography findings with clinical observation and other assessment information within the participant’s professional scope of practice.

8. Develop a practical plan for beginning to use capnography in an appropriate clinical setting.
